José Escolastico Andrade: Distinguished Patriot (+Christmas)

On January 18, 1782, José Escolástico Andrade was born in the Ports of Altagracia, Zulia state. He was an illustrious hero who served as Military Chief, in the last stage of the independence war.

On December 14, 1820, Scholastico joined the republican army, under the command of Simon Bolivar. His outstanding commitment earned the trust of El Libertador. As a result, he is ordered to help consolidate Peru's freedom and he works on it hand in hand with Antonio José de Sucre.

At the end of 1828, he served as Chief of Arms in Mariquita and as General Commander of the department of Cauca. A year later, Bolívar appointed him Chief of Staff of the Carmona division and he followed his orders, traveling to Guayaquil, Popayán and Chocó.

After the death of the Liberator, he returned to Venezuela and served as governor of Maracaibo, fulfilled the role of deputy for the state of Táchira and in 1859, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and Chief of Operations of Cojedes, Portuguesa and Barinas. In addition, that same year, he was appointed Secretary of War and Navy.

Scholasticus excelled in different roles in the country, he died in Maracaibo on August 22, 1876.
