The current Constitutional Reform will fully incorporate justices of the peace, since their figure exists in article 258 of the constitutional text, what is sought is to incorporate their scope and functioning depending on the evolution of popular participation and the need to include communal justice courts, explained the president of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), Judge Tania D'Amelio.

In this regard, during an interview on the program “Perspectives”, broadcast by Radio Miraflores, he stated that Popular Power must be constitutionalized, since “its decisions must be binding” and must be fully defined in the National Constitution.

D'Amelio also stressed that “one of the fundamental principles in our Constitution is the strengthening of the family, family rights, women's rights, the protection of children and adolescents”, while adding that among the most important functions of justices of the peace, “conciliation is the most important point”.

He pointed out that through the policies promoted by the Venezuelan State, “Popular Power knows that it is being visualized by the president and feels that the transfer of power is authentic.”

The magistrate stressed that a sign of this reality is the joint coordination with the Ministry of People's Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, to incorporate the popular court into the Peace Quadrants.

He recalled that 28,374 judges already have credentials granted by the Supreme Court and that they are undergoing ongoing training to provide their service, in the 4,862 community justice and peace modules currently available.

“It is not an impediment that justices of the peace do not have a seat to carry out their work. Justice of the peace is not bureaucratic, it is one of immediate attention. Let's not be tied down as justices of the peace, we are a different justice system,” he stressed.

He also reported that he visited mission bases across the country to verify the work of the justices of the peace and that his jurisdiction works.

“The justice of the peace is tangible, it's not invented. These justices of the peace are going to help us get to those places where people don't have the resources to solve their problems,” he said.
