Sofie Marhaug, a member of the Norwegian Red Party, reported that the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2024.

In this regard, the Norwegian MP explained the reasons why she proposed Assange for this award: “He has exposed Western war crimes and, therefore, has contributed to peace.”

In addition, the parliamentarian stressed that the situation in which the Australian activist finds himself is contrary to human rights and freedom of expression.

“The hearing against Assange puts pressure on all freedom of the press and expression, and it's obviously a huge democratic problem,” Marhaug argued.

It is worth remembering that the United States is persecuting Assange for the publication in 2010 and 2011 of information that showed that the American country had violated human rights in Iraq and Afghanistan. International organizations have denounced the persecution that they consider to endanger both the life of the activist himself and the right to freedom of expression.
