The Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) killed five militants of the Somali terrorist group Al Shabaab in an ambush in Lamu County, in the east of the country, in the town of Lacta Mangai, deep in the Boni forest.

KDF troops were on a mission based on intelligence information when they discovered a makeshift extremist camp and set up an ambush, Telesur details.

During the confrontation, five suspects died and a significant arsenal of weapons and supplies was also recovered, including AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers (RPGs) with warheads, ammunition, solar panels, tents and materials used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The KDF stated that “Operation Amani Boni” (OAB), which means “peace” in Swahili, remains committed to restoring lasting peace and security in the Boni region, ensuring that families can live without fear.

In Kenya, growing concerns persist that Al Shabaab fighters are trying to establish bases inside the dense Boni forest, which straddles the border between this country and Somalia.
