The spokesman for the presidency of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Peskov, in an interview with the French magazine Le Point, stated that European leaders did not want to hear the position of the president, Vladimir Putin, on the violation of security interests, which caused relations with the West to come to a standstill.
“I can tell you that neither (Emmanuel] Macron nor other European leaders wanted to listen to Putin when he told them that Russia was cornered in terms of its security and that this was unacceptable,” the spokesman said.
Peskov also recalled the coup d'etat that took place in Ukraine and the subsequent civil war unleashed by Kiev. He noted that, due to the controversy surrounding the events in Ukraine, relations between Russia and the West “are at a dead end.”
“We're trying to establish relationships with Americans, and believe me, it's very difficult,” he added.
