La Mucuy Station produces 10 tons of trout per year

In the spaces of the La Mucuy Truchícola Experimental Station, trout production has increased from 4.5 to 10 tons per year, making it the first breeding and genetic unit of this species in the country.

This aquaculture production is driven by balanced feeding plans, genetic exchange and the delivery of fry to producers in the upper part of the state.

In this regard, the Minister of the People's Power of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, said that “today we can say that this is the first genetic reproduction unit we have for all trout in Venezuela, this becomes a strategic project thanks to the National Center for Fisheries Research, research teams, the ministry and the government.”

On the other hand, the governor of the state of Mérida, Arnaldo Sánchez, stressed that financing plans, the supply of balanced food and technical support are guaranteed to small and medium-sized producers affected by previous climate emergencies.

“It's not just improving the quantity but the genetic quality that happens here in the state of Mérida; it happens with coffee, with vegetables, with cacao and today with trout, which is an extraordinary food for the entire state of Mérida,” he said during a contact for Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

In addition, the talent and commitment of Merida's aquaculturists were highlighted, who reaffirm that productive activation strengthens both the domestic market and the state's tourism value chain. For this promotion of Merida's trout, there are 45 producers in this sector specialized in breeding in small units.
