Various cultural sectors in the region, including the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity, together with the Latin American Council for Social Sciences (CLACSO), have expressed their rejection of the military action of the United States (USA) against Venezuela, recorded in the early morning of January 3, which included bombings in some areas of the country.

They have also condemned the kidnapping of the constitutional president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first female combatant, Cilia Flores.

In a joint statement, the Network and CLACSO state that it was a “crime against peace” and a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter.

They also warned that this fact constitutes a dangerous precedent for sovereignty at the international level, especially for countries of the global south.

For this reason, they called on the academic community, intellectual networks and social movements around the world to articulate a collective response of solidarity, based on critical condemnation and coordinated mobilization, in order to stop aggression and vindicate the framework of international law.
