The Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUALC) expressed its deepest concern about the forceful actions taken by the United States against Venezuela, which resulted in the kidnapping of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and the first lady, Cilia Flores.

In a statement, released by Venezolana de Televisión, they stressed that this type of intervention represents a direct threat to the sovereignty of countries in the region by the United States and the Trump administration.

However, he stressed that the attack on Caracas is unprecedented since the invasion of Panama in 1989, which constitutes, according to the UDUALC, an event of historic gravity for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The committee stressed that this action “sets a serious precedent for the future of our Latin American and Caribbean region, which feels its sovereignty seriously threatened.”

In addition, the above-mentioned text highlighted that UDUALC claims the sovereignty of countries in the region and joins international condemnations against U.S. military intervention in Venezuelan territory. In addition, the academic organization calls for respect for international law, in particular compliance with the Charter of the United Nations, whose principles prohibit the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State.
