Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces with ATACMS ballistic missiles in the Russian province of Bryansk as a sign that the United States wants to unleash an escalation.

“The fact that ATACMS missiles were used repeatedly tonight (from November 18 to 19) in the Russian region of Bryansk is, of course, a sign that (the US) wants an escalation. It's impossible to use these high-tech missiles without American ones, (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has said this many times,” Lavrov explained during a press conference following his participation in the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Brazil.

Lavrov warned that Moscow will respond appropriately to the United States' decision to allow Kiev to launch attacks inside Russia, the Sputnik news agency reports.

“If long-range missiles are used on Russian territory from Ukraine, it will mean that they are operated by American military experts, and we will perceive this as a qualitatively new phase of the Western war against Russia, and we will react appropriately,” he said.

In the early morning of this Tuesday, Ukraine attacked the territory of the Bryansk region with six ballistic missiles. According to confirmed data, American-made ATACMS tactical missiles were used.

For their part, combat crews of Russia's S-400 air defense system and Pantsir air defense missile system shot down five missiles, one of which was damaged. There were no casualties or material damage.
