Leonardo José Sánchez stepped into the ring this Friday to become national welterweight champion at a boxing evening held at the polyhedron of Caracas.
The man born in Los Teques, Miranda state, Venezuela, faced his third match of 2024 in which he won the fast track in the first round against Cristian Martínez, then against Alimer Estrella and this time against Jeremy Álvarez by a divided decision.
Sánchez (16-0-1/11 KO), 26, had little activity in 2023, where he saw action only once, in his knockout victory against José Muñoz he seeks to make up for lost time in his profession.
This fight marks the return, after 10 years, of professional boxing in Venezuela, on an international card at the Poliedro de Caracas, in which the Venezuelan Carlos Cañizales stands out, who will face the Mexican Iván García for the coveted Silver title of the World Boxing Council in the mini flyweight category.
