In the spaces of the Librería del Sur
Berta Vega in Maracaibo, Zulia state, the workshop on making
rag dolls entitled “Let's Make Our President” was held, facilitated by the wristband Soraima Luzardo.
Luzardo, who is a member of the Council of
Artisans and Artisans of Maracaibo and the Wristband Collective, explained that
this activity is part of the celebration of the Doll Festivities,
promoted nationally by the Artisan Heart Movement, as a prelude to Rag Dolls Day, which is celebrated on
February 2.
The craftswoman pointed out that the objective of the
workshop, in addition to teaching the traditional method of making
rag dolls, is to reflect on their importance as a therapeutic tool and as
an instrument of struggle, memory and resistance of peoples.
“In this historic moment that we are
experiencing, due to the attack carried out by the United States government on
January 3, which has caused material damage, loss of human life and
the kidnapping of our president Nicolás Maduro and the first female combatant
Cilia Flores, we consider it necessary to express our position from a
cultural perspective,” he said.
He also stated that this context makes it
appropriate to elaborate, using traditional wristband techniques, the figure of
President Nicolás Maduro as a way of fixing political position and demanding his release.
