A total of 1,500 copies and more than 500 titles were made available to the community after the inauguration of the 33rd headquarters of the Southern Libraries network in the nucleus of the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV), Casa de los Saberes, in Ocumare del Tuy, Tomás Lander municipality.
The new space, called “María Ruiz” in honor of the local poet and culturist, is the result of an articulation between the Mayor's Office of Tomás Lander, the Government of Miranda, the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture and the Library Foundation of the South, with the objective of expanding access to diverse literary works.
The head of the Book Platform of the Ministry for Culture, Rosa Rosario Soto, stressed that the bookstore is conceived as a space for academic, social and cultural encounter, aimed at promoting the right to reading and the intellectual development of the population.
Regional authorities also emphasized that the initiative seeks to consolidate a reading community and promote values associated with knowledge, national identity and critical reflection, especially among the student population of the Valles del Tuy.
The offer includes academic, historical texts, children's and contemporary literature, in a space that is designed as a training and debate point for students and the general public in this town of Miranda.
