The President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Lula da Silva, spoke at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), during the high-level week of the 80th General Assembly that began this Tuesday in New York City, United States (USA).

“In Latin America and the Caribbean, we are experiencing a time of increasing polarization and instability. Maintaining the region as a zone of peace has always been and is our priority,” said the Brazilian president.

He also said that Latin America is “a continent free of weapons of mass destruction, without ethnic or religious conflicts, and the equating of crime with terrorism is worrying.”

On the other hand, he assured that the path to dialogue in Venezuela should not be closed and that Haiti has the right to a future free of violence, and it is unacceptable that Cuba is listed as a State sponsor of terrorism.
