A new 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean and generates a tsunami warning in Kamchatka, Russia.
The information was released by the local General Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The seismic event occurred 277 kilometers from the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 26 kilometers. According to the ministry, this powerful aftershock could result in a wave up to 19 centimeters high.
The agency's team recommended that local residents stay away from the coast and also for ships in coastal waters to enter the ocean beyond the 50-meter isobate.
Countries around the world have already begun to react to the alert. Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) indicated that the characteristics of the new earthquake “do not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami” on the country's coasts.
Last Wednesday, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.8 that occurred off the coast of Kamchatka generated an alert across the Pacific.
