The Maracaibo municipality, in the state of Zulia, completed the second vaccination cycle against foot-and-mouth disease corresponding to the year 2025 with the immunization of 2,611 animals, the city's mayor's office reported in a publication on its website.
He pointed out that in the first 2025 cycle, vaccines were only applied to 250 cattle, so the goal achieved in the second cycle far exceeded the expectations of the program carried out between November 1 and December 31 of last year.
The Institute for Urban and Periurban Agricultural Production of Maracaibo (IPAUPMA) thus supported 180 producers in inter-institutional coordination with the National Institute of Integral Agricultural Health (INSAI), an entity attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, and with the Government of the state of Zulia, through the Secretariat of Agricultural Development, bodies that guaranteed the provision of the biological products necessary for the day.
The president of the IPAUPMA, Lobsang Nafi, stressed that the increase in the number of vaccinated animals was possible thanks to the active incorporation of producers in the municipality.
“The producers trusted the management of Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino and joined this day, which was also free, thanks to the support of the national government,” he said.
The first vaccination cycle against foot-and-mouth disease in 2026 will begin on May 1, with the goal of immunizing more than 5,000 bovine animals in the Maracaibo municipality.
Nafi reiterated its commitment to continue developing plans, actions and projects that consolidate Maracaibo as a productive area, capable of guaranteeing food security and strengthening the economy of peasants, who provide more than 35% of the food consumed in the city.
