Maracaibo: Historic city rich in the warmth of its people (+anniversary)

On September 8, 1529, Maracaibo, capital of the state of Zulia, was founded. Located in the northeast of the country and is considered to be one of the main cities in Venezuela because of its natural riches that contribute to economic development.
The original peoples of this emblematic territory fought the Spanish invasion, defending their ancient cultures and roots.
The origin of its name comes from Cacique Mara who opposed the Germans who attacked the area. When the indigenous leader perished in battle and his fighting companions exclaimed: Mara-fell! Although others say that it is of origin of the Maaraiwo language, which means “place of abundant snakes”.
During the independence process, on July 24, 1823, the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo was fought, sealing the emancipation of Venezuela.
Nowadays, it is a city full of history, music, tradition and color thanks to the warmth of its people who work every day for the well-being of the country.
