On August 14, 1926, the director, screenwriter and film producer, Margot Benacerraf, a distinguished Venezuelan woman who stood out for her dedication and promotion of the seventh art in Venezuela, was born in the city of Caracas.

Trained in the audiovisual arts at the Institute for Advanced Cinematographic Studies in Paris, France, Benacerraf founded the National Cinematheque of Venezuela in 1966 and with the support of writer Gabriel García Márquez, she created Fundavisual Latina, with the purpose of promoting Latin American audiovisual art, through exhibition projects, research and training on films and television produced in the region.

As a film director, the awards and recognitions obtained for her film Araya, which won the Prize of International Critics at the XII Cannes Film Festival in 1959, in addition to several decorations, including the National Film Award (1995), the Andrés Bello Order, the Order of the Liberator and the Bernardo O'Higgins Order of the Government of Chile.
