The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, made a telephone contact with the State channel, Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) to confirm the actions of the Fire Department of the Libertador Municipality in 15 fires in different areas of the capital city.
“We immediately went to oversee the work of extinguishing the forest fire in Asylum, behind the Hospital de Lídice, where teams from HIDROCAPITAL, CIVIL PROTECTION (PC) and Caracas Firefighters work, managing to control the flames and evicting nearby families,” said Meléndez, in his X account.
He added that they will continue to monitor spaces and accompany protected families through a human deployment and equipment, responding to the contingency, which strangely enough has occurred simultaneously.
“We do not rule out that these fires are caused, and to investigate this, State intelligence bodies are found at every point,” said Meléndez.
The Mayor of Caracas commented that communities are organized in gangs to address any focus that may remain in any area, and she also confirmed that care was given to several housing estates and neighborhoods with ambulances, paramedics and firefighters to treat those affected by smoke.
For his part, the deputy minister of the National Risk Management System and director of PC, Carlos Pérez Am, highlighted that a total of 450 officials have been deployed since fighting several fires recorded in Caracas and Miranda.
In this regard, he noted that mitigation work is being carried out in the Waraira Repano National Park, Ruiz Pineda National Park, La Bollera and El Hatillo, and he confirmed that teams of researchers were activated to determine the causes of these fires.
