As part of the “Young Artist” program of
the National Museums Foundation (FMN), the Museum of Printing and Design Carlos
Cruz-Diez (MEDI) inaugurated on February 13 the photographic exhibition
“Dystopian Dreams”, by the emerging artist Anut Uzcátegui.
The exhibition consists of a total
of 26 pieces that, under a Gothic and surreal atmosphere, highlight various
spaces in the Parque Central housing complex in Caracas.
The exhibition invites the spectator to a
journey that reflects a Caracas captured from above, accompanied by the author's
premise: “I don't photograph buildings; I photograph the whispers that
were trapped in their broken windows and the echoes of footsteps in its empty corridors”.
Uzcátegui, photographer and
audiovisual director, explained that the series was born from everyday life and from her daily walk
through Parque Central, a place she describes as “a city within another city”.
“I can't describe every inspiration in words; every line, every
shadow, every space and even the stress was a reason to photograph,”
he said.
The exhibition was curated and accompanied by María Sequera, a researcher at MEDI, who defined the experience as an alternative view of recurring places. In addition, he emphasized that Uzcátegui's work gives a “new life” to emblematic spaces through a renewed aerial perspective.
