The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced the beginning of a formal dialogue with the government of the United States (USA), following the recent inauguration of her counterpart Donald Trump, who threatens mass deportation of migrants.
During her morning press conference, the president of the Aztec country indicated that on Tuesday afternoon, “Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente spoke on the phone with the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and the talks began, it was a very good conversation, very cordial”.
He pointed out that this is the first direct contact with Rubio to open a process of dialogue that will allow us to reach consensus following the measures adopted by the Republican president, which include the closure of the southern border; the resumption of the “Stay in Mexico” plan, and the change of name to the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, even if it applies only to the U.S. coast.
Sheinbaum explained that care centers are already being installed on the northern border of his country where Mexican people who are deported from the United States will be received.
