The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported Tuesday that the Secretariat of the Navy rescued a living person who was traveling on a boat intercepted by U.S. forces in the Caribbean.

During the press conference, the Mexican head of state indicated that the operation was carried out in accordance with humanitarian criteria and in accordance with multilateral agreements. The survivor was located after an attack on a ship reported for allegedly transporting prohibited substances, International Media reported.

Sheinbaum instructed the Foreign and Navy ministers to contact the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, to discuss the matter through bilateral security channels.

Sheinbaum requested that the case be treated diplomatically, based on international commitments signed by both countries.
