Mexico denounced the criminalization of migrants to the UN

Last Thursday, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, rejected the criminalization of migrants, in a speech given to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

“In particular, we reject the criminalization of people who, for whatever reason, have had the need to leave their homes and are in need of migrating, either to seek refuge or to escape conditions of injustice or poverty,” said Foreign Minister De la Fuente.

He also substantiated that there are countries that spend more on servicing their debt than on the investments they can make in the health and education sectors of their peoples.

The Mexican diplomat stressed that the vision of justice and a full recognition of the dignity of individuals promoted by the government of Claudia Sheinbaum. “It is a project that establishes a division between political power and economic power, that advances in the exercise of a moral economy, that seeks coordination and cooperation with external actors, but does not accept any subordination.”
