After shouting that his government would not relate to communists, the far-right president of Argentina, Javier Milei, backed down his hostile attitude towards China, and acknowledged having been “wrong” about the refusal to establish alliances with the Asian nation.
“Not only am I not going to do business with China, I'm not going to do business with any communist,” Milei said during the electoral campaign, a speech he repeated incessantly after taking office as Argentine president
However, during an interview with Bloomberg, the “libertarian” pointed out that he considers China an important trading partner with an economy complementary to that of Argentina, so he plans a visit to the Asian country, which contradicts his initial position.
Milei, after implementing a series of ill-advised policies in the economy of the South American country since his arrival to the presidency, acknowledged that “sometimes you have to learn”, although he insists on applying exchange control in the country, with a set of conditions that contemplate the request for external financing, which would increase the debt to international creditors.
