Officials from the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC) and environmental groups carried out a large deployment in the Tovar municipality of the state of Aragua with the objective of promoting the National Campaign for the Conservation of Moss, which seeks to encourage the population not to extract and commercialize the plant for the production of Christmas decorations.
This initiative is part of the Plan for the Homeland of the 7 Transformations (7T), specifically in its 6T, which promotes the preservation of the planet and implements public policies to combat the climate crisis.
The deployment began in the Arco de Geremba in the municipality and during the activity, the authorities handed out brochures to citizens and at the same time addressed them with educational talks on the importance of moss, the consequences that arise in the ecosystem when carrying out the extraction of lichens, bryophytes, tree ferns, bromeliads, and other species that are used to build cribs and other ornaments during these holidays.
This great campaign resonated in the main streets and in the Bolivar Square of the jurisdiction with the slogans “Moss-Free and Sovereign Christmas”, “Where Moss Grows, Life Blooms”, and “Moss-Free and Peaceful Christmas”, in which their own and visitors became aware and committed to using alternative materials as substitutes for making Christmas decorations, a regional press release reported.
