The Minister of Popular Power for Internal
Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, said that Venezuela
has neutralized more than 400 aircraft linked to drug trafficking since the
country broke cooperation with the United States
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as part of a policy of real and sustained combat against this scourge.
“The number of neutralized aircraft has exceeded
400 since we broke with the DEA, because we have a
real fight against drug trafficking,” he said, noting that about two weeks ago, eight aircraft were
discarded on the ground and in the air, in a single day, in a
joint effort between the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.
He pointed out that these actions have made it possible to directly
affect the air routes used by
drug trafficking mafias to transfer drugs from Colombia, mainly through
routes that included Suriname, Colombian territory and Venezuelan spaces.
He also recalled that it was also possible to dismantle
the main maritime logistics route used by these organizations
through Lake Maracaibo, where they intended to mobilize cargo from the Colombian Catatumbo to the Caribbean.
In addition, he indicated that this operation allowed
the arrest of numerous persons involved, including officers of the
Armed Forces, police forces, judges, prosecutors, mayors and other citizens who
were facilitating these illegal activities.
Cabello reaffirmed that Venezuela maintains a real fight against drug trafficking, stressing that it is part of the instructions left by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, to protect the security of the territory.
