The Minister of Popular Power for Tourism, Daniella Cabello, installed the II International Congress of
Birdwatching Venezuela 2026 in San Cristóbal, Táchira
state, accompanied by the governors of Táchira and Trujillo, Freddy
Bernal and Gerardo Márquez, respectively, and delegations from Colombia, Ecuador and Ireland.
During the day, Cabello highlighted the potential of birdwatching to
promote ecotourism, environmental conservation and the economies of
communities linked to this activity.
He also pointed out that this modality favors the participation of guides,
young people and local service providers, in addition to attracting visitors with extended
stays and direct spending on the economies of the receiving areas.
The minister also invited people to participate in October Big Day 2026, an
international conference dedicated to the registration of bird species.
As part of the congress, equipment was delivered to the hotbeds of the Táchira Special Bird
Program, the Children's School of the Páramo and the Yohama School of Sightseeing and Ecotourism in
Mérida.
Outstanding Venezuelan observers at
Global Big Day 2026 were also recognized and the book “Birds of the Andes of Venezuela”, by author Miles McMullan,
was presented.
The meeting takes place over two days and addresses issues
related to bird observation and conservation. Venezuela has more than 1,433 bird
species, of which 51 are endemic.
