The sector vice-president of Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, held a meeting with representatives of the country's pharmaceutical sector to guarantee the supply of medicines, following the United States attack against Venezuela, last Saturday, January 3rd.
Jiménez said that “the sector has safety inventories that exceed 90 days of supply,” so he called on the population to calm down and not to fall into unnecessary hoarding of medicines.
He also reported that the replacement of medications is standardized and there is regular provision of pharmaceutical care services at the national level.
He stated that, despite the armed aggression of January 3 in which the presidential couple was kidnapped, the Bolivarian Government guarantees the population access to health.
In a review by the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT), he emphasizes that the meeting was framed in the Economic Agenda of the 14 Productive Engines promoted by the national Government to guarantee free and quality public health to the population.
It also indicates that the ministers of Popular Power for Health, Magaly Gutiérrez, and for National Trade, Luis Villegas, were present at the meeting, in addition to the national superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights (SUNDDE), María Fernanda Palencia.
Representing the pharmaceutical sector, Tito López from the Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (CIFAR); Rodolfo Méndez from the National Chamber of Generic Drugs and Related to the Health Sector (CANAMEGA) and Edgar Vidaurre from the Venezuelan Chamber of Drugstores (CAVEDRO) attended.
Also present were Alicia Pineda, representing the Venezuelan Chamber of Pharmacies (CAVEFAR), and for the pharmaceutical chains, William Paz Castillo de Farmatodo and Rubén Breto from Locatel.
