The sector vice-president of Communication and Culture, Freddy Ñáñez, pointed out the importance for Popular Power to build its own theory and doctrine of communication in the current digital era.
During the activation of the Sixth Training and Communication Line from the Main Theater in Caracas, Ñáñez stressed that it is essential to develop a critical view of the communicational moment that humanity is experiencing and to understand how this stage differs from the previous ones, as well as to identify the advantages and disadvantages that the digital era offers to the Venezuelan people.
He explained that the current conditions for the consumption, production, expression and appropriation of cultural goods respond to a structural change associated with a new phase of global capitalism, which he described as “much more aggressive, dangerous and less identifiable”.
In this context, he warned that new technologies have become an invasive structure, designed to influence the emotions of society, while the owners of large platforms maintain a permanent offensive against peace and the will to fight of peoples.
For this reason, he pointed out that algorithms are used to exploit expectations of success and generate stigmatization based on appearances, especially at times of greater social vulnerability.
The Minister of Communication and Information also warned that this communication landscape deepens the decomposition of community sense and territorial identity, by exalting the individual above any form of collective existence.
He explained that social networks are nourished by the personal data and preferences of users, converted into merchandise to strengthen manipulation mechanisms. In addition, he warned of the proliferation of so-called “fake news”, content built to the public's expectations, which, through the manipulation of images and messages, can distort the perception of reality.
He took advantage of the space to highlight the courage that the Venezuelan people have had to face media power and recalled that Commander Hugo Chávez promoted communication as a duty to spread the truth.
