Minister Nelson Rodríguez: Nearly two million 100 thousand tons of debris have been collected

This Thursday, August 20, the Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez, reported that to date, a total of 2 million 100 thousand tons of debris have been collected and treated, derived from the collapse of buildings during the seismic emergency registered in the country, on June 24.

During an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), he thanked the work of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the members of the components of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and the People's Power, who have been fundamental in this process.

He also highlighted that the collection of waste produced by daily life has stabilized between 280 and 300 tons per day, after 700 tons were recorded on the first day of operations, in a state whose usual production is around 200 tons.

He estimated that work on the collection, classification and shredding of building waste in areas affected by earthquakes could last up to a year.

Rodríguez thanked the support of the Guairian Popular Power, which has actively supported the collection and classification efforts.

He explained that the central objective is to prevent debris-like waste from becoming an environmental liability, by transforming it through processes applied in the territory into useful inputs for reconstruction and for the projects of the Venezuela Renace Plan.

The minister explained that there are 14 spaces divided into two categories: Some intended for the segregation of materials, while the others are arranged for treatment and shredding.

He also pointed out that the waste care and management process in La Guaira is a joint effort led by the Vice Presidency of Public Works and Services, together with the teams of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC) and People's Power, under the instructions of the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.
