The sectoral vice-president of Political Sovereignty, Security and Peace, GJ Padrino López, from the Bolivarian Military Academy in Fuerte Tiuna in Caracas, led the tribute to the leader of the Panamanian Revolution, Brigadier General Omar Efraín Torrijos Herrera, on the 96th anniversary of his birth, for his fight for the sovereignty of his country.

“Torrijos did not hesitate to become the interpreter of the great aspirations of his people, he had a clear vision of a sovereign, prosperous Panama, he believed in the importance of national unity and in the capacity of his country to determine its own destiny,” said the Minister of Popular Power for Defense.

He added that once in power, he began working to dismantle the colonial enclave that the United States had maintained since 1903 in the Panama Canal area, “achieving continental unity and the integrationist ideal a daily practice.”

“Without a doubt, anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist convictions guided his life, interpreting in their right dimension the challenges posed to his country by the political upheavals of the time, which is why with medium clarity he came to affirm before the United Nations Security Council that Panama understands very well countries that suffer the humiliation of Colonialism and those that do not accept the exercise of political power by a foreign government over the territory where they were born”, said G/J Padrino López.

It is worth noting that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) held an act of unveiling a bust and military honors, to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Torrijos.

“It's just an act full of symbolism to honor the birth of this great revolutionary of the Great Homeland, the General of the Poor, Omar Torrijos,” he said during the solemn ceremony.
