Minister Villegas highlighted the deepening of cultural ties between Venezuela and Colombia

During the installation of the First Binational Film Festival Somos Hermanos, from Bogotá, Colombia, the Venezuelan Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, highlighted the deepening of cultural ties between the two countries.

“Venezuela is Colombia and Colombia is Venezuela. I would say that more than sister peoples, we are the same people, and those dots and lines that have been drawn should not prevent the free flow of cultural production, of cultural dialogue,” he said, according to a note from the Ministry for Culture.

He also highlighted the fundamental role of art in social transformation. “I think that part of the reasons why these cultural initiatives are relevant is that with art and culture we will accumulate the necessary strength so that life and not death prevails under these circumstances,” he said.

In this first binational exhibition, the figure of the Cantor del Pueblo Ali Primera and the sacred stone Kueka were erected as symbols of union and brotherhood, as a significant step in strengthening cultural relations between Venezuela and Colombia.

In addition, at the event, Minister Villegas presented the manager of the Colombian State's National Public Media System (RTVC), Hollman Morris, with a doll with the figure of Ali Primera, made by Karina Rivas of the Venezuelan Movement of Wristbands and Dolls, with the commission of sending it to Colombian President Gustavo Petro.

In this regard, he pointed out that Ali Primera is a “very relevant Venezuelan cultural reference” whose legacy transcends his time, as is “our common father, Father Bolivar.”

For his part, the RTVC manager welcomed the deepening of ties. “We are children of the same homeland, we have many things in common,” he said, in addition to expressing his solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirming the commitment to peace .
