More than 400 cuatristas gathered this Thursday, April 4th, at four in the afternoon in the different Bolivar Squares of the country to celebrate the National Day of the Fourth. This was stated by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, who described the day as historic.
From Plaza Bolívar in the country's capital city, the holder of the ministerial portfolio accompanied the country's 444 cuatrists, who began the day performing El Diablo Suelto , a musical composition by Venezuelan author Heraclio Fernández.
“It's a joyous day, it means centuries of cultural resistance. The greatest treasure that a country can have is its music, its art, its culture. Long live the repertoire of the Venezuelan four, its four strings, its men, its women, its boys and girls,” he said.
The four was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation on April 9, 2013 , through Official Gazette No. 40,176. This declaration recognizes the cultural and symbolic value of the four as an emblematic musical instrument of Venezuela, present in a wide variety of folk and traditional musical genres.
