Venezuela and Russia formalized a strategic alliance with the objective of promoting the transfer of technology for the production of insulin and various biological products in Venezuelan territory.

The agreement provides for the modernization of the facilities of the Socialist Enterprise for the Production of Biological Drugs (ESPROMED BIO) and the supply of medical products to strengthen the national public health system, according to a press release from the Ministry of the People's Power of Health ( MPPS)

The technical cooperation carried out through the Russian pharmaceutical company Geropharm and the MPPS involves two operational phases: the first guarantees the total supply of ready-to-use insulin from St. Petersburg to Venezuela, while the second phase consists of the adaptation of local facilities for the autonomous production of ampoules, cartridges and injector pens.

As part of these bilateral relations, the country received a shipment of 1.5 million doses of insulin, which meet the demand of diabetic patients enrolled in state assistance programs. In addition, health authorities confirmed the arrival of 70,000 doses of the BCG vaccine, intended for the National Plan for Children's Immunization, framed by scientific exchange protocols between the two nations.
