The Non-Aligned Movement (MNOAL) condemned the new measures announced by the Government of the United States (USA) to tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, following the signing of an executive order that enables the application of tariffs against any country that supplies oil to the island.
In an official statement, the international organization expressed its deep concern about the extreme escalation of unilateral pressure against the island, which expands the scope of the blockade and deepens its effects beyond Cuban territory.
The MNOAL warned that these provisions have an extraterritorial nature, which impacts not only Cuba and its population, but also other States and the normal functioning of international economic relations. In this regard, he denounced that these policies violate fundamental principles of the global legal order and the multilateral system.
The movement considers that these measures constitute a flagrant violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as of international law and the norms that govern friendly relations between States, the document underlines.
The members of the block reiterated their call to the U.S. government to end its economic, commercial and financial blockade, the main obstacle to the full development of Cuba, and demanded the removal of the additional sanctions imposed since 2017.
