The Office of the Ombudsman reported that, between January and November 2025, the armed conflict in Colombia caused the forced displacement of 101,474 people and the confinement of another 110,375 in various regions of the country.
The agency recorded 116 cases of displacement and 93 cases of confinement during that period, with serious repercussions on the rights of entire communities, including children and adolescents, Sputnik reported.
The department of Norte de Santander concentrates the majority of victims, with 73,922 people displaced, mainly in the Catatumbo subregion, where a humanitarian crisis persists as a result of the territorial dispute between illegal armed groups.
The Ombudsman's Office has highlighted that the clashes in Catatumbo involve the National Liberation Army (ELN), dissident FARC factions and other criminal structures, which have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations, social leaders, indigenous communities and the signatories of the peace agreement.
The escalation of violence led the Government to suspend dialogue with the ELN after denouncing war crimes. In recent days, the Ombudsman reported fighting in La Gabarra, in the municipality of Tibú, where families with children remain sheltered in a school to protect themselves from attacks. Injuries in need of urgent medical attention have also been reported.
The agency has urged the armed parties to cease fighting and allow health personnel to enter the affected areas.
