More than 16,420 kilos of drugs were seized during the first quarter of the year

A total of 16,425 kilos 283 grams of different drugs were seized during the first quarter of this year, according to information issued by the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (SUNAD).

According to the information, this action represents a decrease of 25.28% of what was seized in that same period compared to 2023, when 21,983,300 kilos were seized.

The SUNAD explained that this number was achieved through 2,651 procedures executed throughout the country, which translates into a decrease of around 16.67% compared to last year. He also indicated that between January and March, 3,316 people involved in illegal drug trafficking were arrested, which represents a decrease of 19.81% compared to 2023.

As for the states with the highest seizures, the distribution was as follows: Zulia (11,306,926 kilos); International Waters (3,134.500 kilos); Caracas (387,456 kilos); Nueva Esparta (346,783 kilos) and Táchira (291,461 kilos).
