More than 30,000 tons of sugar are harvested at the Las Majaguas Sugar Plant, located in the Portuguese state and reactivated four years ago by the National and Regional Governments in alliance with the private sector, said the governor of the entity, Primitivo Cedeño.
He specified that in three months of milling, the mill brings more than half a million tons of cane processed to producers in the municipalities of Agua Blanca, San Rafael de Oonto and Acarigua (Páez), an area of influence of the Las Majaguas Irrigation System.
“After four years of getting our hands on this industry, today we can proudly say that we have 508,000 tons of ground cane,” he said.
After evaluating the factory's operations, the regional president indicated that the plant's production levels are a sign of the commitment, trust and joint effort of the plant's workers and the producers who bring the raw material to the plant.
“We are on our way to national supply,” he said, stressing that Portuguesa guarantees 73% of domestic sugar production with four operating centers, including Las Majaguas, where “we are producing more sugar for all of Venezuela,” he said.
The 2025-2026 sugar harvest began in Portuguesa last November and is scheduled to run until next April.
