The National Tourism Institute (INATUR) and the National Council for People with Disabilities (CONAPDIS) gave the workshop “Accessible Tourism is not a Social Obligation” to more than 60 officials from the Ministry for Tourism (MINTUR) and students from the University of Tourism.

According to information from MINTUR, the objective of the workshop is based on providing tools that guarantee effective care for tourists with disabilities. In addition, it is done as part of the promotion of training plans focused on inclusion and quality.

During the day, the experts addressed issues of inclusion and the importance of being a pillar of service quality. At the same time, they emphasized that it is essential to know the needs to provide a good service experience.

For her part, the CONAPDIS facilitator, Julia Salcedo, said that “it is very difficult for people with disabilities to do certain things because the system is designed for normal people and the change has to start with the service.”

Salcedo urged students to change the paradigms that people with disabilities cannot enjoy and access recreational places.
