More than 9,000 students participate in the Venezuelan Astronomy Olympics

A total of
9,782 students registered to participate in the first phase of the 2nd
edition of the Venezuelan Astronomy Olympics 2026, a competition that seeks to
identify and train talents in astronomy, astrophysics and space exploration
through standardized theoretical and practical tests.
According to
information from Venezolana de Televisión, during the inauguration held at the Ana María Campos National School, located in Filas
de Mariche, Miranda state, the Deputy Minister for the Communalization of Science for Production of the Ministry for
Science and Technology, Danmarys
Hernández, highlighted the institutional commitment to youth education.
“This challenge is
not only the presentation of an instrument that values knowledge, but
it is a process of integral support for training,
capacity development, knowledge and interpretation of sciences associated with
astronomy,” he said.
At the same time, it celebrated
the registration of young people in this initial phase, which will move towards regional and national
competitions, culminating in the classification of 300
participants in the final.
The Deputy Minister
also highlighted the results obtained in previous editions, with gold and silver medals
and honorable mentions in international settings, and described the participants as part of the “Genius Generation” called
to promote scientific development and national sovereignty.
Young people from the country's 24 states, 201 municipalities and 444 educational institutions participate in this edition, accompanied by 476 tutors. The initial test consisted of 40 simple selection questions and calculation exercises.
