MP: Attack on the CNE data transmission system was carried out from North Macedonia

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced that the attack on the data transmission system of the National Electoral Council (CNE) was carried out from North Macedonia.

“According to the classified information we received, the main person involved in this attack would be citizen Lester Toledo, a notorious fugitive from justice, who is abroad,” said the Attorney General, during a press conference.

He also explained that the information collected showed that the attack was intended to manipulate the data that was being received at the CNE. “Fortunately, this action was not successful, but it slowed down the process and the announcement of the results,” he said.

Saab noted that, along with Toledo, the fugitive from Venezuelan justice Leopoldo López and María Corina Machado appear to be involved.

In that regard, he announced the appointment of prosecutors to continue with the investigation and gather evidence of conviction in those actions whose mission was to adulterate the results.
