This Wednesday, the Standing Committee on Economy, Finance and National Development of the National Assembly (AN) evaluated the possibility of incorporating the issue of ecosystem protection into the Coffee Bill.
The member of the parliamentary body, deputy Geraldine Parada (PSUV/Zulia), explained that with this they seek to protect soils and waters in the coffee cultivation process and thus face the climate crisis.
He added that, thanks to the policies of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, the cultivation of this crop has been promoted throughout the country, which will maintain aquifers in different areas of the country and increase the productivity of coffee varieties in the nation.
He recalled that Venezuela is at the forefront of the fight against Climate Change, where the idea is to move from a monocultural coffee country to a polyculture nation where other species of flora or fauna are involved.
For his part, Deputy Andrés Avelino (APC/Nacional), indicated that among the proposals aimed at innovating the new legal instrument, the State is urged to support the implementation of plans and studies on coffee at all levels of education.
