The National Executive and the Venezuelan Chamber of Shopping Centers (CAVECECO) agreed to extend the energy savings plan in the sector for eight weeks, a measure aimed at mitigating the impact of the El Niño climate phenomenon and ensuring the stability of the National Electricity System (SEN).
As part of this contingency, the city of Caracas will be incorporated into rationing schedules for the first time, collaborating in two specific blocks from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to reduce the burden on the public network.
The authorities and the union expect the system to reach an adequate level of stabilization throughout the national territory by the month of October.
The president of CAVECECO, Freddy Cohen, highlighted the trajectory of self-management and efficiency in the commercial sector, which has had self-generation infrastructure through private power plants since 2009.
Cohen emphasized that shopping centers represent only 2.7% of national electricity demand, so the permanence of citizens in their facilities generates a positive impact by displacing consumption from the residential sector, responsible for 40% of the total use of the system.
With this scheme of inter-institutional collaboration, the union reaffirms its commitment to the rational use of energy for the benefit of the community.
