National President: 40,000 hectares of a native seed of yellow and white corn will be sown

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, reported that in Venezuela, the production of an indigenous seed of yellow corn and white corn has been achieved and 40,000 hectares will be planted.

“Making a leap to corn production within the human, ecological pattern, the health of the earth, the product, the human being and also food for animal husbandry,” he stressed.

The head of state said that this is “great news for Venezuela”.

From the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), where he led the First Anniversary of the Great Science, Innovation and Technology Mission, “Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán”, he explained that this is the Turén 2000 seed variety and showed some bags containing the prototypes of the aforementioned seeds.

“That seed will have to be given a name. Venezuela is growing healthy, a new seed, our national seed,” he emphasized.

He estimated that as the months and years to come go by, “2026, 2027 and 2028 we will grow in seed production capacity in other fields and in the thousands of hectares that we are activating”.

In this regard, he pointed out that part of the native seeds of yellow corn and white corn “should immediately go to the Patria Grande del Sur project that we have with the Landless Movement in La Vergareña, in the state of Bolívar.”
