National Reading Plan moves from temporary camps to schools across the country

The National Bicentennial Reading Plan extends its scope and begins its distribution phase in schools throughout the country, after a successful initial deployment in the Transitional Camps, with the objective of bringing the Bicentennial Library collection of the Panamanian Amphictyonic Congress to Venezuelan boys, girls and young people.

The initiative, promoted within the framework of the commemoration of the 243rd anniversary of the Liberator's birth, seeks to bring Bolivarian thought closer to the classroom through a first kit of six publications that ranges from foundational documents of continental history to narrative and children's literature.

The Minister for Culture and president of the Simón Bolívar Study Center, Alejandro López, emphasized during his speech on the program Bolívar Nuestro, broadcast by La Radio del Sur, that the transition from camps to educational establishments seeks to consolidate reading as a collective practice and a pillar of national identity, stressing that it cannot be assumed that young people already know Bolívar, but rather that it is necessary to constantly remember it and bring it up to the present day.

According to a press release from the sectorial vice-presidency of Territorial Socialism, schools will receive this initial selection consisting of the works Freedom, Sovereignty and Shared History: Founding Documents of the Panamanian Amphictyonic Congress (1826-2026), From Panama to Pan-Americanism by Carmen Bohórquez, Calavera de Rongny Sotillo, We Know The Liberator and I Met the Boy Simon by Onelia Pérez, and A Friendship That Conquered a Continent: Simon and Nevado by Aymara Díaz-Campos.

This plan, implemented under the coordination of the Presidential Commission for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial, will continue to expand in the school environment with the addition of new texts, teaching materials and audiovisual resources designed to energize the study of Simon Bolivar's work.
