After six years without taking place, the National Student Sports Games will resume in all schools and high schools in the country, Education Minister Héctor Rodríguez said Tuesday.
“We are going to start with 19 sports in the local phase, that is, intersalones, intercourses. Then comes the municipal phase, or parish phase, as the case may be, and from there we move on to the state phase, which is between municipalities. Those who qualify there go to the national phase, that's in July,” Rodríguez explained during a visit to the Gervasio Artigas National Educational Unit, in Caracas.
In addition, the minister urged the educational community to hold the Student Games every year, from January to July, and the Community Games from August to December, “so that every year, all year round, the kids are involved in a sporting dynamic.”
According to a press release from the Education portfolio, Rodríguez insisted on offering students cultural, scientific and sports activities, among others. “The child, the adolescent, spends half a day in the classroom and we must ensure that the other half shift is dedicated to extracurricular activity, sports, culture and science. The less time I spend on the networks, it's a gain for the country, for the dad and mom who are working. So, we are going to consolidate scientific hotbeds in all high schools, sports teams,” he emphasized.
The head of Education mentioned that his office is working to ensure that in all institutions there are centers of the César Rengifo Theater movement, Scientific Semilleros, Bolivarian Society, sports. “That there be an offer, institution by institution, so that children can develop all their talent,” he said.
