The cultural movement from Cuba, the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity (REDH) expressed recognition and respect for the electoral process that culminated last Sunday in Venezuela.
They also recognized the active participation of the Venezuelan people, who, in the group's opinion, “have once again demonstrated their commitment to democracy and the sovereignty of their nation.”
In addition, they congratulated the elected president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, for obtaining the victory at the polls. “We recognize President Maduro's leadership in promoting peace, social justice and unity,” the REDH statement said.
In addition, REDH vigorously condemned “the violent and destabilizing actions promoted by sectors of the opposition that seek to undermine stability and peace in Venezuela.”
These actions, according to the organization, “not only threaten the security and well-being of the population, but they also challenge the democratically expressed will of the Venezuelan people.”
They also proceeded to urge political, national and international actors; to accept the results of the elections, to contribute to the strengthening of democracy and peace in Venezuela. “It is essential that dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts be prioritized, avoiding any form of external interference,” they added.
In this way, they reaffirmed their support for Venezuelan citizens “on their path to the development and deepening of the government of the people”, as well as their commitment to “the defense of democratic principles, the self-determination of peoples and social justice and human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
