The Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (REDH) rejected the recent decision of the United States Government to re-present Cuba as a threat to its security.

In a statement, the organization argued that this imperial stance is aimed at supporting a policy of economic pressure and justifying new restrictions. “An attempt is made to legitimize a scheme of prolonged coercion,” the document says.

In its public appeal, the network invited social movements, cultural spaces and academic sectors to denounce the new offensive against Cuba and to demand the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade. In addition, he urged recognition of the island's role in international cooperation and its tradition of solidarity.

“The defense of Cuba is part of the defense of the self-determination of peoples,” the organization said.
