The international organization No Cold War rejected, through a statement, the aggressions to which Venezuela is subject by the United States government, while assuring that these have nothing to do with the defense of Human Rights and democracy.

In the above-mentioned text, the organization highlighted that the United States has been at war against Venezuela since 2001 when the Hydrocarbons Law was approved in 2001, which increased taxes on oil extraction for transnational companies and required a minimum state participation of 51% in joint ventures for private partners.

“We call on the peoples of the world to join the Venezuelan people against this aggression by the United States and its allies in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in Europe. The world must not allow this aggression to continue,” the text states.

Below is the full statement:

Declaration of No Cold War on the United States aggression against Venezuela

The No Cold War collective is firmly opposed to Venezuela's illegal embargo, the sanctions policy and the military aggression that Venezuela has been suffering through the US navy and the attack on small boats. We believe that this aggression in the Caribbean has nothing to do with human rights or with democracy. The United States has tried to overthrow the Government of Venezuela since the Bolivarian process approved the Hydrocarbons Law in 2001, which increased taxes on oil extraction for transnational corporations and achieved a minimum state participation of 51% in “joint ventures” for private partners. The first coup against the Bolivarian process occurred in 2002, not even a year after the approval of the Hydrocarbons Law. This attack on Venezuela has to do with oil. It has always had to do with oil. And it will always have to do with oil. The United States Government is trying to use its financial and military instruments to overthrow the Venezuelan Government, not by the Venezuelan people, but by American oil companies.

In the National Security Strategy of the United States for 2025, the administration of President Donald Trump made it clear that his administration would now focus its attention on the Western Hemisphere so that the United States could restore its dominance in the region. He has evoked the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 with a Trump corollary, that is, to enforce the Doctrine with armed force, to suggest that the United States has a license to do whatever it wants in this region. But in fact, the Monroe Doctrine is not international law; international law, based on the United Nations Charter, prevents any attack without a UN Security Council resolution. If the United States attacked Venezuela, that would constitute a violation of international law and would immediately be considered a war crime (just as the illegal U.S. war against Iraq in 2003 was a war crime).

The United States has been at war with Venezuela since 2002, when it participated in a failed coup against President Hugo Chávez. For almost a quarter of a century, the United States has tried to overthrow not only the Government of Venezuela, but also the Bolivarian revolutionary process that seeks to defend the country's sovereignty and the dignity of the Venezuelan people.

We call on the peoples of the world to join the Venezuelan people against this aggression by the United States and its allies in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in Europe. The world must not allow this aggression to continue.
