PAHO rehabilitated the outpatient clinic of the Regional Directorate of Health in La Guaira

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) rehabilitated the spaces on the third floor of the La Sanidad outpatient clinic, headquarters of the Regional Directorate of Health in the state of La Guaira, the Última Noticias portal reported.

The space will have administrative offices, operational areas and an auditorium for meetings and pedagogical activities and an area dedicated to the state situation room,

The work carried out by PAHO, in coordination with the health authorities, included the comprehensive rehabilitation of approximately 400 square meters and the removal of materials and debris accumulated after the earthquakes.

Improvements were also made to the internal distribution of spaces, waterproofing, electrical installations, lighting, air conditioning, carpentry and replacement of windows and air conditioners.

The Single Health Authority of La Guaira, Nelare Bermúdez, pointed out that the outpatient clinic is the backbone of health policies in the state and of health information systems.

“This will allow us to expand our reach, benefit more people and better carry out our responsibilities in implementing actions in the public health and epidemiological surveillance system, in addition to the fact that our workers now have decent spaces,” he said.

For his part, the entity's director of epidemiology, Julio Pacheco, assured that these works are a step forward in strengthening health coordination and in the recovery of services for the population after earthquakes.

“For a long time we have carried out our epidemiological surveillance tasks under very limited conditions, now our capacity for analysis and response will be stronger,” he said.

The director of the outpatient clinic, Ariel Flores, explained that this rehabilitation will make it possible to reactivate many clinics on the first floor, whose spaces had been ceded to the state health department, so that service to the population could be expanded and improved.

For his part, the acting representative of PAHO, Franklin Hernández, said that thanks to the improvement of the outpatient clinic, the Single Health Authority will be able to coordinate all the tasks of epidemiological surveillance, environmental sanitation and patient management, in addition to the fact that health workers will have an adequate space for holding meetings.

“Health personnel will be able to integrate and communicate much better in terms of situation analysis and response to health problems,” he said.

These spaces will make it possible to optimize the use of medical supplies and computer and office equipment with which PAHO has supported the state's healthcare team in recent weeks.
