Palestinian movement HAMAS condemns attack on Global Sumud Flotilla

This Thursday, the Palestinian resistance movement HAMAS condemned “in the strongest terms” the violent interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by the Israeli Army, calling it a “criminal act” and an example of “maritime terrorism against civilians in international waters”.

The Israeli operation on Wednesday resulted in the arrest and kidnapping of activists and journalists who were traveling in the humanitarian flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip.

“The interception and arrest constitute a treacherous attack and an act of piracy against those who were transporting urgent aid to a people subject to genocide and systematic famine for two years,” HAMAS said in a statement.

He also assured that this action adds to Israel's history of war crimes and warned that it will increase global rejection of the occupation. “We salute the courage of international activists and their determination to break the siege,” he said.

HAMAS called on the world population to organize demonstrations in repudiation of the operation and demanded that the United Nations (UN) and the international community assume legal and moral responsibilities to ensure the protection of activists and the continuity of the humanitarian mission.
